Joey and I had Buccal Facials. Here's our honest thoughts.
What are they & should you get one?
Before my friend Soph slid into my DM’s to ask me if I wanted a Buccal Facial I’d never heard of the concept before.
That’s not super surprising - I’ve had maybe 3 facials in my entire life. But when she shared the process with me I was intrigued.
If you’re like me and have no idea what a Buccal Facial is I’m sharing exactly what it is and who it’s for. Plus Joey and I will share our honest thoughts with you including our before and after photos.
Let’s get into it…
What is a Buccal Facial?
Joey and I went to SHA Skin & Body and were taken care of by founder Shannon Lewis. Shannon is the first person to offer Buccal Facials here in Adelaide and she’s trained with the best in Sydney to deliver a pretty special treatment.
First up, I learnt that a lot of celebrities are now choosing to have this treatment instead of optiong for filler and Botox. I think we’re slowly learning that injecting things into our bodies isn’t greeaaattt, and the Buccal Facial offers a natural alternative. If it’s good enough for the princess herself Meghan Markle, it’s good enough for me.
I took this from the SHA website:
The Buccal Facial is an intensive intra-oral massage technique that tightens and contours the area between the cheeks and jowls by stimulating muscles and ligaments. It focuses on the face, neck and décolletage, offering a natural facelift through lymphatic drainage, sculpting and myofascial stretching. In a 90-minute session, up to 17 different facial muscles are targeted to release tension and stress. Regular sessions offer results comparable to dermal fillers and botox, sans needles and side effects.
The before and afters of clients are pretty incredible. Here’s a couple of them:

Who Is It For?
Shannon mentioned that a lot of women with intense jobs (lawyers, doctors, dentists, etc) love this facial as a treatment for migraines. If you’re someone who holds tension in your jaw (me!) and neck, the Buccal Facial offers an incredible release. I also found it verrrry interesting that Dentists who treat patients with botox in the jaw for their migraines are actively choosin NOT to have botox for their own treatment as they’ve seen that proloned use of botox can create jowls. With a Buccal, you get a natural release of tension and your face gets lifted too. It makes sense.
It’s also a wonderful treatment if you have an event and want your face to look a little more snatched and lifted. The blend of massage is great for stress relief, while the lymphatic drainage and gua sha also lifts the face. Plus your make-up sits beautifully afterwards. I think it would be the perfect gift for brides prior to the big day - for both stress and aesthetics!
What Happens?
It’s 90 minutes of bliss. Shannon massages your head, face, jaw, neck and decolletage. She even massages inside your mouth. It’s wild.
The unique massage techniques used in the Buccal Facial stimulate blood flow and facilitate the elimination of toxins and waste products via lymphatic drainage. This process reduces puffiness, enhances skin tone, and brightens the complexion.
You also receive a cosmetic grade peel, hot towels, aromatherapy oils and sound baths. It’s seriously relaxing. And that’s something I loved - you get the most incredible relaxation and stress relief while also improving your appearance. Win-win!
