Issue #80 | Chicken Pot Pie, The Farm Show I'm hooked on, Feeling Content & My New Ugg Boots!
Plus a full weekend of working in sport!
I last wore this bodysuit 17 years ago.
The year was 2007 and I’d just moved back to Adelaide after a two-year stint in Canberra at the Australian Institute of Sport.
I was 19 years old, and after a childhood obsession with Netball I was returning home from the nation’s capital jaded. I even considered quitting the sport altogether.
One day I may tell my AIS stories - there’s some funny ones, juicy ones, and sad ones. I made some of the best friends of my life, but overall the experience left me pretty scarred.
Returning home to my friends and family in Adelaide was the best way to heal after a tumultuous couple of years. Pulling on the silver bodysuit, surrounded by my idols like Peta Scholz and Laura von Bertouch was surreal. I remember not being able to pass properly in my first few training sessions because I was so nervous!!
Little did I know the Thunderbirds would become my home for the next decade, and my love for netball would be restored. We changed colours another 2 times after this silver number - including a Port Adelaide Power inspired dress that had one man ask if we were their cheerleaders. If looks could kill, that man would’ve met his maker on the spot. We’d also go on to win 2 premierships and create some of the best memories of my life.
I pulled on the bodysuit for a photo with the club on Wednesday to celebrate Heritage Round this weekend. It didn’t take long for the nostalgia to flood back.
If you’d told 19-year-old me rolling in for her first day at Netball SA stadium (with a contract worth approx. $1500 + a free pair of shoes) that I’d be commentating the sport I almost gave up, I wouldn’t have believed you.
Life is wild, and I’m proof that it can turn out even better than expected. You’ve just gotta keep showing up.
(Speaking of - thank you SO much for making The List one of the Top 100 Fashion & Beauty Newsletters on Substack - I’m the only Australian on that list so it’s got me feeling extra chuffed. I’m currently sitting at #96. Thank you!!!)
Enough of that stroll down memory lane, let’s get into Issue #80 of The List! Today I’m sharing:
A quote about feeling content (in the 3 latest pantone colours of the year!)
I can’t believe I love a TV Show about Farming, but I do!
The Ugg Boots I bought thanks to a reader recommendation
And my new favourite winter meal: Chicken Pot Pie - it’s incredible and you must make it. That’s an order.
Have the best Friday, and I hope you love Issue #80!
