Chrissie Swan's Lamb Shoulder will change your life.
The Radio Host, Podcaster, TV Star, Walker, Baker & Swiftie shares her favourite finds.
Welcome to…
I first met Chrissie Swan back in 2016. She was hosting our Adelaide Thunderbirds awards night, and I was retiring.
We got chatting and I was taken by how warm and joyful she was. She made me feel important, and seemed to care about what I had to say. There wasn’t anything special about me - everyone who spoke to her that night would’ve left feeling the same way.
(I’ve always thought that’s one of the highest qualities of exceptional people - the ability to make every person feel seen and valued. It’s something I’d love to master one day!)
We got talking about life after netty and I shared that I was going full-time into my hand-lettering business, Cleverhand. Fast forward to a week later and an email popped up in my inbox from THE Chrissie Swan, asking me to paint the chorus to her favourite song “God Only Knows” by The Beach Boys. It was the song she sang to her kids every day in the hopes they would remember the words in their little ears forever.
8 years on, it still hangs in her home to this day.
Chrissie has long been someone I’ve admired. From her quick wit to her joy for life, she’s an inspiration to me.
I hope today’s issue of The Guest List leaves you feeling more inspired and joyful too.
Enjoy! :)

‘It is only with the heart that one sees clearly. What is essential is invisible to the eye’
It’s from The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery and I love it because to me it means that what you FEEL is more important than what you SEE. And equally, if you can make someone FEEL beloved and accepted and cherished - then that is the best thing you’ll ever do in your life. I am absolutely a heart over head kinda gal, and my heart always ‘sees rightly’.
Note from Em:
Ahhh, it all makes sense. Her intention to make people FEEL “beloved, accepted and cherished” as she says, is absolutely felt with those that that interact with her. But isn’t it incredible that she can make people also feel this through the radio, a podcast app or the TV?
I am loving Hacks on Stan. I work with a 26 year old protege and there’s something about the dynamic between the salty old showbiz lady and her whipsmart young writer that is strangely familiar! But my fave film of all time is the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Gene Wilder. I must’ve watched it 2000 times. GOOD DAY SIR!
Note from Em:
I haven’t watched Hacks OR Charlie and The Chocolate Factory (though I’m a biiiig fan of the book by Roald Dahl. I’m adding these to my ‘watch’ list!
I discovered matching tracksuits at Kmart (top AND bottom for $52) and now I have 4 sets in different colours on high rotation. The dark brown ensemble caused a sensation at nova when I wore it!
It’s getting colder and I feel sad about that. I’ve pulled out my Le Tan Tanning Serum which is like a magic pick me up. Also - have you tried Kind Collective MiracleGlo? Makes you looks like the kinda gal who drinks 3 litres of water every day.
I follow this bad ass woman called Heidi Clements on Insta (she came on my podcast but I’ll get to that!) and she made a reel where she simply suggested we start wearing our beautiful clothes more. Monday is a special occasion, the fact you’re breathing is a special occasion she says - so wear the damned clothes! I’m gonna try this as soon as I get a bit less busy. Which is…?!?
Note from Em:
We got 3 for the price of 1 here, thank you Chrissie! I think we’re kindred spirits because I too love a Kmart activewear find and am currently using Le Tan - but haven’t yet tried the face serum which sounds like the exact next thing I will be purchasing. Also, I just looked up the MiracleGlo which is a primer and for someone who spends a small fortune on water bottles and forgets to drink out of them…this looks a lot more cost effective to fake hydration. I also agree wholeheartedly with Heidi’s philosophy. I’m partial to an overdressed moment and figure if the worst thing someone is going to say about me is ‘she’s a bit done up’ - I’m ok with that.
I’d have to say my slow cooked lamb shoulder is my signature, and I’d love to share the recipe but I’m like my Gran and all my recipes are in my head! But if I were to download it for you straight from my brain it would look like this [RECIPE BELOW]
Note from Em:
I made this on Sunday and it blew my socks off. I’m still not over it.
We had a playground playdate at 1:30pm so I quickly whipped this up and whacked it in the oven before we left at 1pm. It couldn’t have been quicker or easier.
When we walked through the door at 5pm and the smell throughout the house was intoxicating. I took the lamb out of the oven at 6pm and as Chrissie said, the bones just slid out of the meat. And let me tell you this…more tender meat I have never tasted.
We loaded up our wraps, almost passed out with pleasure at the melt-in-your-mouth lamb, and casually planned to make this every Sunday night for the rest of our lives.
THANK YOU CHRISSIE!!!
